A Dream by the Lake: When Design Reflects Personality

Some projects start from a need. This one began with a dream. On this peaceful property along Lake Memphremagog, a couple envisioned a home that reflected who they are — open, warm, and naturally connected to the landscape.

A Dream Turned Into a Home

Their old chalet, though full of memories, no longer met their needs.
So they made a bold decision: to start fresh.
To demolish not just walls, but to rebuild their dream — a home designed for gathering, breathing, and living in harmony with its surroundings.

The Meeting with Fay Martel

Before meeting Les Coupables, several designers had been consulted — talented people, but without that spark of connection.
And then came Fay Martel, interior designer and co-founder of the studio.
From the very first conversation, trust came naturally.

“We understood each other immediately. We knew this project would be built with pleasure and respect.”

Fay quickly recognized the challenge: to design a home that was both refined and welcoming, rooted in nature and thought through to the smallest detail.
Above all, it had to be a space shaped by two voices — a true reflection of both personalities.

Two Personalities, One Vision

This couple embodies perfect balance.
She is expressive, curious, and passionate about color.
He is precise, thoughtful, and devoted to functionality.

“She loves when things feel alive. He loves when things can breathe.”

That single phrase became the foundation of the entire concept.
Every decision was made together, in close collaboration with Fay.
Claude played a crucial role in the functional design — no detail was left to chance.
Every alignment, material choice, and technical feature was carefully refined.
Suzanne, on the other hand, brought warmth, fluidity, and that touch of audacity that gives the home its soul.

Their shared vision? A style they themselves define as “chalet chic.” “Think warmth and welcome, the beauty of the place, noble materials — and above all, respect for the environment.”

The result is a delicate balance of rich textures and clean lines, of natural tones and quiet sophistication.
A home in harmony — two voices speaking as one.

The Kitchen: The Heart of the Project

At the center of this vision stands the kitchen — generous, luminous, and open to the lake.
It’s the beating heart of the home, where life happens naturally.

The large island anchors the space, inviting conversation and togetherness.
Oversized glass doors open to the terrace, letting natural light flow freely throughout.
It’s where family and friends gather, where mornings stretch into brunches and evenings turn into laughter.
And sometimes — it’s where dancing happens, too. (It’s said that Suzanne loves when nights end that way.)

Light and Material

Here, light is a material in itself.
The vast windows frame the landscape and let it spill gently into the space.
Wood, matte finishes, and soft fabrics shape an atmosphere that feels both calm and alive.

An architecture that steps back — to let nature take center stage.

The intention was clear: to create a home that feels like a year-round retreat.
Each sunrise paints new textures, each sunset softens the edges — a constant dialogue between the interior and the world outside.

A Team That Danced the Tango

This project was built through an exceptional synergy.
Client, designer, architect, and builder — everyone moved in step, communicating openly and intuitively.

“It wasn’t just collaboration — it was a tango. Everyone adjusted, moved back and forth, finding their rhythm so everything stayed in harmony.”

That spirit of teamwork shows in every detail: the flow of movement, the framed views, the balance of space and light.
It’s what gives the home its ease, its coherence, and its warmth.
