Case Study: Jack Flat BBQ Restaurant

Partagez

The interior design project for Jack Flat BBQ presented an exciting and challenging task: transforming a 6,500-square-foot Mediterranean-style space into a sanctuary of the American Wild West. Our goal was to capture the essence of an authentic Honky Tonk while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that evokes memories of family gatherings around the barbecue.

The essence of a modern ranch

Family Sundays, slow-smoked beef, and the sound of guitars—this was the scene we aimed to create. However, starting with a Mediterranean setting, this was not just a reorganization but a complete reinvention.

Maple wood smoker: The culinary backdrop

First, integrating a continuously operating maple wood smoker, a first in North America for a restaurant, required a design solution that went beyond mere aesthetics. We needed to build a specific, fire-resistant space surrounded by brick walls and glass partitions, allowing customers to see the meat smoking before their eyes. This added a unique visual and olfactory dimension to their experience.

Murals and fusion: The harmony of cultures

One of the standout features of Jack Flat BBQ is the spectacular mural adorning the staircase wall, depicting a gorilla in cowboy attire majestically perched on a horse. This artwork is not only a nod to the rebellious and adventurous spirit of the place but also cleverly hides a ceramic wall, integrating a touch of modernity while staying within budget. Above the bar, another captivating piece draws attention: a massive gorilla face, subtly hidden behind shelves extending to the ceiling, creating a fascinating visual hide-and-seek for patrons.

Dining room, bar, and dance floor: Versatility

The dining area and bar are the vibrant heart of Jack Flat BBQ, designed to enhance the restaurant’s convivial and immersive ambiance. The restaurant is furnished with large wooden tables reminiscent of picnic tables and typical checkered booths, fundamental elements of the Jack Flat experience. These tables are not just dining spots but become the stage for memorable moments.

Decor that tells a story

Every element was carefully selected to tell a story, creating an atmosphere that transports visitors to another era. In collaboration with an antique dealer, we filled the restaurant with vintage treasures: from horse saddles to old radios, creating a decor rich in history and anecdotes.

Taxidermy animals, including a crocodile, add a touch of curiosity and adventure, reminiscent of the wild spirit of the South. The restaurant’s emblem, a gorilla, hidden throughout the decor, creates points of interest and encourages customers to visually explore the space to discover these hidden elements.

Lighting for a welcoming ambiance

Lighting played a crucial role in creating the ambiance. A clever mix of string lights, hanging lights, and antique lamps was used to produce a warm and welcoming light, inviting customers to relax and fully enjoy their experience.
